What is a private chat?

A private chat is a direct conversation between two people. Nobody else in the room sees it, and the conversation stays available so you can pick it up later. It is the natural next step after meeting someone in a chat room or during a random video chat.

When to move to a private chat

• You keep replying to the same person in a group room.
• You want to talk about something more personal than the room topic.
• You met someone on video and want to stay in touch after the call.

Ask first. “Want to keep talking in private?” is respectful and gives the other person an easy way to say no.

How private chat works on Bondwoo

1. Send a friend request: click the user’s name in a room, or the add-friend button in a video chat.
2. Wait for them to accept: private chats only exist between people who both agreed.
3. Talk one-on-one: the conversation appears in your Friends section.
4. Stay in control: you can remove a friend at any time, which ends the private chat.

End-to-end encrypted messages

Private messages are encrypted on your device before they leave it, and only your friend’s device can decrypt them. For registered users, messages are stored on Bondwoo in that encrypted form, so Bondwoo cannot read them. For temporary @Fast users, private chats are not stored on Bondwoo’s servers at all; they live in your browser and disappear when the temporary account does.

Tips for better private conversations

• Ask open questions (“what got you into that?”) instead of yes/no questions.
• Share something about yourself too; conversations need balance.
• Respect pace and boundaries. If someone goes quiet, give them space.
• Never pressure anyone for photos, personal details or a move to another app.

Red flags in private chats

Most people are just looking for a good conversation. Leave and report if someone:

• Asks for money, gift cards, crypto or verification codes.
• Pushes for intimate photos, or threatens to share images you sent (that is sextortion, a crime).
• Insists on moving to another app right away.
• Sends links you didn’t ask for.
• Says or suggests they are under 18. Bondwoo is adults-only: end the conversation and report them.
